Katelyn M. Caruso Chair of Research

Katelyn suffered a catastrophic ruptured brain aneurysm during a routine morning workout on December 28, 2022. After a very courageous battle, she tragically passed away on January 9, 2023, at the age of 31. She was so healthy, active, and vibrant. She had just purchased her first home and was just months away from marrying her fiancé, Brett.

Katelyn was a scholar athlete who graduated from Quinnipiac University with a master’s degree in occupational therapy in 2015. She was passionate about her career at Excel Orthopedics. She became a Board-Certified Hand Specialist in 2019. She also worked part-time at Tufts University and Spaulding Rehab in Boston on the Brain Injury floor.  She had endless determination, a hard work ethic, and care and compassion for helping others. She touched the lives of so many patients and loved the rewards of helping them heal.

Katelyn had an amazing passion for life. She had boundless determination in everything she did. She was an amazing athlete and passionate about fitness and running. She loved Gloucester, the beach, boating, and being with her friends and family always. She was an amazing snowboarder. She loved to travel, and her adventures took her to Iceland, Ireland, the Caribbean, BVI’s, Park City, and so much more. She loved gathering her friends and family for a day or night of food, drinks, and fun. She worked hard and played hard. She lived life to the fullest every day. There are no words to describe how devastating her loss is to her family, fiancé, friends, and coworkers.

Katelyn’s family has established KATELYN’s CREW to carry on her legacy and raise money for the BAF and the Katelyn M. Caruso Chair of Research, established in 2023. Through the BAF Run/Walk, KATELYN’s CREW has raised $44,215.00 in just a few short months and will continue to carry on this mission in support of brain aneurysm research and awareness with other fundraising efforts.
