Bleeding into the space around the brain (the subarachnoid space). This occurs when an aneurysm ruptures, but it may also result from other causes of bleeding around the brain including a head injury from trauma. Subarachnoid hemorrhage from a ruptured cerebral aneurysm can lead to a hemorrhagic stroke, brain damage and death.
