Pittsburgh Marathon for UPMC, Pittsburgh, PA @ RIverfront
May 6 all-day

The DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon provides a 26.2 mile tour of Pittsburgh the best way we know how . . . on foot! With 24 miles of riverfront trails, beautiful parks, historic attractions and home to 90 neighborhoods, the ‘Burgh is a great place to run!

“It is estimated that up to 1 in 50 people in the United States will develop a brain aneurysm during his or her lifetime.  Often known as a silent killer, brain aneurysms often have no warning signs or symptoms prior to rupture and can lead to significant disability or death.  As members of the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Pittsburgh medical center, we are dedicated to providing exceptional care for our patients who suffer from brain aneurysms, both in and out of the hospital.

As an Official Contributing Charity of the 2018 Dick’s Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon, we are running on May 6, 2018 to raise awareness for brain aneurysms and support research efforts to improve patient outcomes.”

Rhonda Martin’s story…As I approach four years since surviving my ruptured brain aneurysm, I have learned a lot about myself personally as well as this disease. I want to spread awareness to help save lives from ruptured brain aneurysms and associating a flower to promote and educate people intrigued me. I came up with the Lily of the Valley. Here are the reasons why: The flower is also known as Ladder to Heaven and Our Lady’s Tears. It’s a small white flower that blooms in May and in September it has red berries, which is cool since September is BA month. Also the BA colors are red and white, and most aneurysms are the berry type. I think having a symbolic flower like the Lily of the Valley associated with the BA Foundation would be so appropriate and beneficial.

Please join us in a fun-filled day to save a life. If you can’t attend any donation amount will be greatly appreciated.

For more information please email Rhonda Martin at helpmerhonda508@gmail.com or uptownart.com/westwood
